    1.4 Historical And Cultural Stories

The main peak of Meili Snow Mountain, Kawagebo, means "the god of snow mountain" in Tibetan. In legend, Kawagebo is a handsome and battle-tested prince. Therefore, the group of peaks above 5,000 meters above sea level on both sides of Kawagebo is named "Thirteen Peaks of the Prince".The Tibetan also believe that Kawagebo Peak is the residence of their patron saint, once humans climb to the summit, the god will leave them. Without the protection of the god, disasters will befall. Because of this special folk culture and religious belief, Meili Snow Mountain is known as the only snow mountain that is prohibited from being climbed to the top due to cultural protection.

In addition, Meili Snow Mountain is also a pilgrimage site for Tibetans and it contains rich Tibetan Buddhist culture. Tourists can visit local temples and sacrificial sites together with experience the unique Tibetan culture, including wearing Tibetan clothes and hand-painted thangka etc.
